St Luke's Report - 26th May

St, Luke’s – Torver Organ Recital April 26th

To celebrate the refurbishment of the Trover Church Organ by Roger Mallison an organ recital was held in St. Luke’s Church on Sunday Evening 26th April during our “Sing and Share” Service (every 4th Sunday).

We were privileged to have organist Claire Alsop from Bristol Red Hill who plays the UK’s largest church organ. She came and performed a repertoire that she felt suited our organ and the evening’s celebrations.

Many “friends of Roger’s and St. Luke’s” came from far and wide to fill the church to capacity. Friendship and fellowship together continued into the Village Hall following the concert, where we shared an amazing supper together. This was an appropriate end to an amazing achievement by Roger and his friends with support from the local church community.

We now have 3 willing organists to keep the organ in use, and are blessed to have Clare Davison playing on a regular basis for us. Donations from the organ recital amounted to £400.00. Thank you to all. The organ fund is continuing as the organ will need professional tuning twice a year from this point on. St. Luke’s PCC.

Torver Village Hall

Work continues on both the refurbishment and grant applications. All further progress depends on having mains water connected. This will mean a road closure at some point in the future. Bill Dorman and volunteers are planning to sand and seal the floor in the Main Hall. Please contact Bill if you are available to help. Volunteers are also needed to help with exterior paintwork and windows as the weather improve. We also would appreciate help with making the blinds, so if you can give some time please call Linda on 41777.

Our target for the heating, new kitchen and floor is £20,000.00. We are grateful to the following for helping us towards this target.

The Rawden Smith Trust, Coniston Co-op Community Fund and Coniston 14. Many Thanks.
