Women's Institute

Torver Women's Institute meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 2pm in the Schoolroom.  (Except: December – 2nd Wednesday.  No meeting in August)

A warm welcome awaits you and your friends when you come along to our meetings.  Though the number of our members is small, we arrange a programme of speakers covering a range of interests.  In January we have a birthday dinner to celebrate the beginning of Torver WI in 1953, and in December a special Christmas party.

Torver WI falls under the umbrella of the Cumbria-Westmorland Federation of WIs and this means that members and their friends can join activities arranged by the Federation.   Something for everyone! – outings to theatres, historic houses, cities and gardens; walks; floral art and crafts.  Members can volunteer to help and support the WI with their displays at the Holker Hall Flower Festival and the Westmorland County Show.

The WI is a vast organisation.  Every member has the opportunity to express her opinion on proposed Resolutions at their May meeting.  The Resolutions are topical problems and are voted on at the annual meeting of National Federation of WIs.  The WI makes its powerful voice heard by government and can influence local and national issues.

Courses at Denman College, near Oxford, are open to all WI members.  The WI is the only organisation to have its own residential adult education centre.

Come and find out more!  Make new friends and enjoy yourself!

Secretary: Joan Wilson
